Prof. Saubhagya Vardhan has a high musical and academic background. He has inherited music by birth from his father Late Acharya Kailash Chandra Dev Brahaspati, a great musicologist and eminent scholar and his mother Smt. Sulochana Brahaspati is an internationally famed vocalist who has received prestigious national award of Sangeet Natak Academy, Delhi.
He has composed choir music, including group songs, group bhajans, and shabad gayan based on classical ragas and talas. He has also directed choir music drawn from Mahatma Gandhi’s favourite bhajans of the Ashram Bhajanawali, performed by a group of fifty students. In addition, he has composed music for several ballets such as Ahilya Uddhar, Megh Ka Kavi, and Soor Ke Krishna. His compositional work further includes musical settings of devotional poetry by saint poets such as Surdas, Tulsidas, Kabir, Brahmanand, Meera Bai, and Sahjobai.
He won numerous prizes at the Zonal and Inter-Zonal Youth Festivals of Panjab University in various categories including group songs, group bhajans, geet, ghazal, and classical music, bringing several trophies to the college.
He has also been invited as a music expert and adjudicator at youth festivals of various universities across Punjab and Haryana, including Panjab University, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Punjabi University, Patiala, Kurukshetra University, Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, and Rohilkhand University, Agra. Additionally, he has served as a member of the Music Board of Studies at Panjab University since 1997, completing three terms.
Ministry of Human Resources and Cultural Affairs, New Delhi has given junior as well as senior scholarship in vocal classical music to the talented students under his guidance.
He is the author of several important publications on Indian music. His works include Bharatiya Sangeet Ke Aapt Rishi Acharya Brahaspati – Ek Adhyayan (2003), Sangeet Chintan – Pratham Khand (2004), How to Play Harmonium (2009), Great Masters of Indian Music (2010), Acharya Brahaspati Smriti Granth (2011), Riyasat Rampur Aur Sangeet (2016), and Bhartiya Sangeet Mein Granth Lekhan Ki Parampara (2016).
Presently working on SERIES OF RAGA RAHASYA (Volumes I to VII) has written by late Dr. Acharya K C D Brahaspati and Vidushi Sulochana Brahaspati. Volumes I to V have been published.
